Curriculum
At Churchill Center & School we strive to give students new confidence and
pride in the role they play in their education. We work towards empowering
them with the tools they need to succeed.
Tutorial
The individual tutorial is designed to:
- provide a 1:1 student-teacher setting
- remediate academic areas in reading, reading comprehension, spelling, handwriting, written language or math
- Wilson Reading System® is used for decoding and encoding instruction.
Auditory - Visual
The auditory- visual curriculum is designed to:
- auditory and visual skills necessary for academic tasks such as memory, sequencing, reasoning and fine motor skills (lower school)
- study skills (upper school)
- self-advocacy skills
Math
The math curriculum is designed to:- develop and maintain basic mathematical concepts, computation and application of skills
- fill in the gaps of missing information that students with learning disabilities often display
Language Arts
The language arts curriculum is designed to enable a student to:- become a more capable writer
- use language more effectively and efficiently
- be better prepared to succeed in situations that require writing
- focus upon composition, literature, grammar and language usage
Social Studies/Science
The social studies curriculum facilitates the development of skills to: - read, understand, and interpret graphic materials
- effectively use a textbook, develop note-taking skills and complete research projects
- utilize problem-solving and organizational skills to become effective and confident public speakers
- understand, follow and complete scientific experiments to enhance critical thinking skills and solidify science concepts
Motor Skills
The objective of motor skills is to: - raise the level of the student’s general physical fitness through regular and structured activities which develop aerobic capacity, flexibility and strength
- develop perceptual motor skills
- provide skill training with quality practice experiences in a variety of team sports
Transition
The Transition Program is designed for learning disabled students who need a specialized learning environment, but no longer need the continuous remediation offered in the Remedial Program

- integrate individual skills
- learn and apply organizational and self advocacy skills
- gain knowledge of and apply the skills necessary to meet the demands of a traditional classroom
Fine Arts
The focus of fine arts department is to enable students to: - express and interpret information and ideas
- learn to translate ideas through drama, music and visual arts
- participate in the communication process as observers; analyzing, evaluating, critiquing and interacting with different mediums and each other
- use appropriate electronic equipment, computers and networks to access information, process ideas and communicate results
- recognize and apply connections of key information and ideas within and among learning areas
Technology
The purpose of keyboarding class is to:- instruct students in proper posture and finger placement for all letters
- develop keyboarding accuracy and fluency
- provide experience creating multimedia presentations
- teach students basic html to produce a simple web page
- instruct students in specific techniques when searching for information on the Internet
