July 13th was a momentous day in Churchill history as ground was broken for the new 46,000 square foot Churchill Center & School facility. The ceremony began at 10 a.m. on what had to be one of the hottest days of the Summer. In spite of the heat, Churchill students, faculty, staff, parents (current and past) as well as grandparents (current and past), alumni and friends gathered for the festive occasion.

The construction has started on the new school building. We have a basement, and walls for the gymnasium, tutorial rooms and computer labs.

Work continues at the Main Building. With Precast Hollowcore Decking completed, steel detailing and decking continue, exterior steel framing and the plumbing rough-in are beginning for the 1st and 2nd Floors.  Steel decking will be placed at the Gymnasium, Commons and Gallery.  Brick Veneer will start at the south wall of the Gymnasium.

During the coming month the exterior steel studs, sheathing and window trimming will continue.  The plumbing rough-in for the 1st Floor, 2nd Floor and Roof areas is underway.  The Mansard roof, consisting of steel trusses, shingle nail base and asphalt shingles will be worked on.  The Brick Veneer installation will be concentrated on the Gymnasium area, with small areas at the Main Building being installed as sequencing requires.

February brings the continuation of interior plumbing and electrical
rough-in work. Installation of interior steel studs door frame is
underway. Mechanical ductwork and sprinkler piping will continue at all
floors. The Mansard roof construction will reach completion. Weather
permitting, block, brick veneer and EPDM roofing construction will
continue.

Interior Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing & Fire Protection work will be ongoing.  Interior steel studs will continue and drywall will begin once the EPDM roofing installation has been completed. The aluminum frame window installation will begin this month.  Site work will start up again in March to achieve required grade for areas of the parking lot/drive and athletic field.  Block and brick veneer work will continue with emphasis on completing the block for the areas around the perimeter of the Gymnasium.

Mechanical, plumbing and electrical work will continue in all areas.  Interior metal stud and drywall installation will continue at all areas.  EPDM Roofing will be completed at the Commons, Locker, Library and Servery areas.  Site grading will continue at all areas around the building and at the detention pond and field areas.  Field work shall commence with concrete curbs and underground piping.  Aluminum window installation will begin.  Exterior plaster finish at the Second Floor will begin.  Brick Veneer installation will continue at the north and east portions of the Main Building.

Brick Veneer work will be completed early this month.  Plaster work at the Second Floor exterior will continue.  Site work will get busy with grading, retaining walls, curbs, sidewalks, irrigation, field work and asphalt paving.  Adjustments and finishes will begin for the plumbing, electric, fire sprinklers and mechanical work.  Drywall will continue to be installed, while the taping and finishing of walls already hung gets underway.  Installation of Painting, Flooring & Architectural Woodwork will begin this month as well.

Brickwork will finish this month as the Main Entry is completed and remaining areas are washed. The Second Floor Plaster will be completed. Site work will continue including asphalt paving at the Basketball Court, Running Track and Parking Lot. The curbs and sidewalks will be completed this month. Work will continue at the Athletic Field for installation of drainage, irrigation, soils and grasses. Installation of plants, trees, sod and seed will begin this month.
Drywall finish and painting will continue inside the building, as well as, tile work and electrical fixture installation. The ductwork for heating and air condition will be completed in June. Installation will begin for plumbing fixtures, carpet, lockers, cabinets, countertops, window sills, glass/aluminum entry doors, Gymnasium flooring, toilet partitions, magnetic white boards, ceiling tiles, etc.

Finishes are underway throughout the Campus.  Interior wood paneling, doors and hardware, toilet paritions, painting, carpeting, tile work, electrical cover plates and lighting, gymnasium equipment and ceiling pads will be completed in the 1st half of July.  Front entry pavers, landscaping and irrigation, athletic field work, and paving will be underway throughout July.  Testing of the HVAC, Security, AV, Fire Alarm, Electrical and Fire Sprinkler systems will be finished this month.  Completion is getting close!

While major construction is coming to a close, there are still a number of items that will be worked on during August.
Stairwell one plaster will be finished, along with the installation of the handrails. Door hardware, wood paneling and crown molding will be completed this month. Landscaping continues around the edges of the parking area and will begin shortly at the interior near the building. Sod will be installed at the Athletic Field this month. Work will continue at the Play Area with the installation of the sand, play equipment and ground cover. The Stage curtains will be hung, as well as, the climbing wall and scoreboard in the Gymnasium. Lastly, we will be moving in!
