Sandi Gilligan

Sandi Gilligan is the founding director of Churchill Center & School. “Churchill Center & School is really here today because of a passion and a dream and a need for these kinds of services in St. Louis,” she says.

Sandi helped incorporate Churchill as a non-for-profit school in 1977 and served as director when the school began holding summer sessions in 1978.  “The very first summer we had 21 kids,” she says. “At that point, the big cry that we heard was, ‘day school, day school. Please do a year-round school.’”

In 1980, Churchill opened a year-round school, adding a nine-month program September through May. In 1990, Sandi and her team implemented Churchill’s community outreach program, which addresses the lack of knowledge about learning disabilities in the community. Today, Sandi continues to serve as director of Churchill Center & School, leading a team of more than 50 teachers.

In her free time, Sandi enjoys reading, gardening, and art.
